Mint Lamb
The objective of the Mint Lamb Competition is to promote the quality and variety of lamb available in New Zealand, leading to increased consumption while providing an opportunity for individual farmers to be recognised for the superior product they produce.
The competition is open to all breeds. Lambs are to be current new season lambs born after 1 July 2010.
Proceeds from the gift lambs will be credited to the Canterbury A&P Association to assist in the development of the Show. There is no entry fee to enter the Canterbury A&P Show Mint Lamb Competition.
PRIZES The winner of the Canterbury A&P Show Mint Lamb Competition will receive a Mint Lamb Trophy, Show ribbon and promotion. 1st prize $1000 cash + $700 Zolvix product 2nd prize $500 cash + $350 Zolvix product 3rd prize $300 cash + $150 Novartis product The other semi finalists will receive a $100 cash prize. All entries go in the draw for spot prizes. There are over $4000 in prizes and prize money to be won. Agents/Drafter each entry received with your name listed as the agent/drafter puts you in the draw for a $200 wine hamper. The agent/drafter for the winner of the Canterbury A&P Show Mint Lamb Competition will also receive a $200 wine hamper.
SCHEDULE OF CLASSES There are four classes: Class 1 Dual Purpose Class 2 Dual Purpose/Cross Terminal Class 3 Composite/Crossbred Cross Terminal Class 4 Terminal
JUDGING The lambs will be processed by Alliance Group at Dannevirke for North Island entries and at Smithfield, Timaru for South Island entries. They will be judged initially for Best Overall Yield. The Top Best Overall Yield from each class from the North Island and the South Island and then the next ten highest yielding lambs overall will be the semi finalists and they will be sent to be Taste Tested at the Canterbury A&P Show. Over 100,000 people visit the three day Canterbury A&P Show. The 2010 Show will run from 10-12 November. The results will be promoted via media releases to all key media nationally, in advertisments in The Press and NZ Farmers Weekly, and will also be available on the Show website. The taste Test Judging of the finalists will take place in the Sheep Exhibitors Club at the Canterbury A&P Show on Wednesday 10 November at 3.30pm. All entrants will receive notification of the yield results and finalists, Show ticket and invitation to the Taste Test Judging at the Show.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Entries close at 5pm Friday 22 October 2010. After your entry is received you will be sent instructions regarding collection/delivery of your lambs to the North or South Island Alliance Group plant. Your Area Lamb Coordinator will supply your Mint Lamb Competition Allflex eartag, you must ensure you send an ASD (animal status declaration) for each lamb when they are sent to the Alliance plant. Carcass weight range 14.5kgs to 19.5kgs. No cull stud animals, commercial sheep entries only. All product to be Quality Mark standard.
PUBLICITY In any advertising, promotion and publicity, an entrant may refer only to an award won by the entrants lamb and not (whether expressly or by implication) to the lamb or competition performance of any other entrant/s. Any use of an award in advertising promotional or publicity material must be accompanied by a statement of the actual award won and the year or years in which they were won and any award illustrated must relate to the award described.
