Youth Classes


The Sheep, Beef & Dairy Cattle and Dairy Goat Sections all hold junior classes at the Canterbury A&P Show, to encourage youth to become involved in showing. The Lady Isaac Scholarship has been introduced to enable our winners to compete in other competitions nationally and in Australia.

Junior Beef Youth Show - Beef Cattle

Herdsperson Competition
Sponsored by AgriSea NZ Ltd and Isaac Construction. The winner of the Senior Section receives The Lady Isaac Scholarship of $1000 to travel to Australia to compete.

Interschools Paraders Competition
Sponsored by CRT Real Estate. The competition is set up for exhibitors to adopt a school to help handle their cattle at the Show and in return the school members will get to learn showman-ship and also have the opportunity to enter the Beef Herdsperson Competition and the Interschool Competition.

Canterbury Youth Sheep Show

New Zealand Young Judges Championship
Sponsored by NZ Sheepbreeders Association. Lady Isaac Scholarship awarded to the winner to travel to Australia to compete.

Merino Junior Judging Competition
Lady Isaac Scholarship for a return trip to Australia to the top placed New Zealand competitor (should he or she not be the overall winner). Winner to compete in the Australasian Junior Judging at the Perth Royal Show.

Young Sheep Judges Field Day
The day will consist of tuition by senior sheep judges on all aspects of sheep judging and then a judging competition will be held as a precursor to the New Zealand Young Judges Championship to be held at the Canterbury A&P Show in November. Dairy Goat

Class 9028 Junior Showmanship
For young persons 15 years and under. To be judged on exhibitor's ability to lead, place, turn, and stop and start their goat. To answer two questions. Show preparation and appearance of both Exhibitor and goat taken into account. Exhibitor's age to be included on entry form.

Class 9030 Junior Herdsperson
No entry fee, open to Junior Handlers 15 to 25 years. To be judged on the show preparation of both goat and handler, the handlers skill at exhibiting the goat, correctly answering questions and the conformation and condition of the goat.
