Pigs

Firstly, congratulations on taking the first step to becoming a pig champion, this year’s competition would not be the same without your involvement, so take the time to ensure your pig is looking sharp for the big day. Also be sure you and your crew are well dressed for the occasion, this year the best dressed competition will have some great prizes for the winners. Below I have outlined how the day will run and few tips to ensure a successful day at Pig Week. 
House keeping
We ask that there is no drinking or smoking around the pens, the event this year will be televised, which is a big opportunity for us to grow patronage and showcase what a great day this is. 
Getting your pig penned up
This can often be a stressful time, so ensure you are well prepared. All pigs coming to the show, will require a Water and Feed bowls along with enough feed for the duration of the stay. Pigs can be brought to the grounds the day before and be penned up. We will have a list of allocated pens. All pigs are required to washed one hour prior to judging, ready for initial inspection in the pens. Bring buckets, shampoo, and baby oil to ensure your pig can be washed adequately prior to the show. No pigs are to remain at the show grounds after 4.30pm Friday.
Judging from 10.00am -12.00pm
Given the number of entries and the filming it is likely that only the top 15-20 pigs from the pens will be brought into the arena for further judging. From there the top 5-8 pig will be selected for closer inspection at the judge’s discretion. Prize winners will be announced at the prize giving/ lunch. The judges are likely to invite members of the syndicates up to provide some history of the pig.
Awards are as follows.
•    The Commercial Boar Supreme Champion – The Ramstein Memorial trophy  
•    The 2nd place Commercial Boar
•    The 3rd place Commercial Boar
•    BBA under 18 -Best Overall Commercial Boar – Pork Puller Plate
•    Young Farmers Club best commercial Boar 
Prize Giving and Lunch – TBC
Prize giving
Prizes will be awarded for all categories. Prizes will be presented by sponsors. All winners will be asked to stay for photos with sponsors and signage. 
Note that by entering into this confirmation we take this as acceptance that you understand that any prize money paid by CAPA to you, may depending on the amount and your individual circumstances, be regarded as income by the Inland Revenue in New Zealand and therefore subject to the payment of income tax.  It is your responsibility to take independent advice on this and to make such payment where required.  CAPA accepts no responsibility for the payment of any income tax obligations that may or may not arise from the payment of any such prize money to you.


Best dressed competition
Depending on numbers, syndicates will be selected by the judges to “walk the catwalk”. Prizes will be given for first and second. Its not just what you wear, it how you wear it too. Extra points will be given for tricks.


Lunch
A full BBQ lunch will be provided, along with refreshments. The cost for the lunch will be confirmed closer to the time.

Pigs

Conditions: Pigs will be judged on conformation, balance, muscle and finish.  Pigs will ideally weight between 80-100kg.  There will be no breed bias, rather a focus on the finished product. Entrants must have their pig for a minimum of two months prior to the show.

Boars can be entered in up to all three classes if applicable.  Entry fee $30 is per class.
