PARADES: A representative from each breed must be available to carry the breed sign in each parade. Signs are available from the Cattle Office. See C21 for order.

To be read in conjunction with General Conditions of the Canterbury A&P Association and with the Rules and By-Laws of the Royal Agricultural Society.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the public being at risk of injury while stock are being continually moved to the judging area that the Cattle pen are of the Livestock Pavilion be closed to the public between the hours of 8am and 1pm on Wednesday & Thursday. These times will be confirmed and may be extended or shortened to fit with the judging programme.

Pen Fees: A Cow with calf at foot is classed as one animal.
Alpaca - $10 per animal.

Greenfeed supplied free of charge.
Please note that there will be a limited amount of straw available; please bring any additional straw required. Bark chips will not be provided for the Dairy Marquee.
C.1: All cattle entered in Purebred Classes must be entered in the recognised Herd Books of the respective breeds, or if under one year of age they must be eligible for entry. The names of all Purebred Cattle must be stated in the entry form. This rule will be rigidly adhered to.
C.2: All cattle must be tattooed or marked in accordance with their respective Breed Society Rules otherwise they will be disqualified.
C.3: The registered number of the exhibited animal entered in the Purebred Classes must be given at time of entry, but registered numbers of Sire and Dam are not required. Breeding details will not be printed in the catalogue; however details are required for the entry form for verification of eligibility.
 
In the case of young cattle where the registered number of the animal is not available, the date of birth and the name of sire and dam must be given.
C.4: Exhibitors must state the breeder's name.
C.5: The owner of the dam of an animal at the date of mating shall be considered the breeder. C.6: All Cattle must be on the ground and stalled by 8pm the day prior to judging. All cattle are required to remain on the ground until the last day of the Show approximately 3.30pm - unless
otherwise given permission by Convenor. No vehicles are to be driven within the Showgrounds prior to 5.30pm on any day of the Show.
C.7: Cattle arriving late will be liable to disqualification.
C.8: The same animal cannot be entered in two Classes unless the contrary is specified. C.9: Exhibits competing in the family and group classes must be entered in other classes.
C.10: The age of all Cattle, including calves at foot, is determined from 1st June each year with the exception of children’s calf classes.
C.11: All exhibits must be shown up to their respective ages, and no two-year-old animal may be shown as a three-year-old, and no yearling may be shown in a two or three-year-old class. This applies to all sections.
REPLACEMENTS
C.12: Notwithstanding Rule 15 of the General Conditions and Regulations of the Canterbury A&P Association, when an animal has been duly entered and catalogued in any class but cannot be paraded, it may be replaced provided notification is given to the Cattle Supervisor and providing it is the property of the Exhibitor concerned as stated in Rule 2 of the General Conditions. The replacement must meet entry criteria for TB and been tested clear. Breeding data is to be displayed on the stall.
IDENTIFICATION
C.13: T.B. Testing. All cattle entered for showing must be from a current TB Clear Status Herd. A copy of the current TB test certificate must be included with your entry forms. The Canterbury A&P Association must be notified at the time of entry of any testing to be carried out after the closing date of entries or of any potential TB issues that may arise after entries have been submitted.
Owners entering cattle must sign the declaration printed on the entry form. There are now two documents required under Animal Health Board and Canterbury A&P Committee regulations - TB Test Certificate: For cattle from a Declared Movement Controlled Areas - All Cattle aged 3 months or older are to be TB tested, and have a clear test within 60 days prior to being moved to the Show. All other cattle must be from a herd that is up to date with its current routine TB testing requirements. TB Animal Status Declaration Cards: This is a legal requirement for all cattle being moved. All cattle entered for this Show must be accompanied in transit by a signed and dated TB Animal Status Declaration Card showing a TB Clear status in accordance with present legislation. Animal individual numbers must be included on the TB test sheet. These cards will be inspected at the unloading area.  A NAIT approved RFID tag will be mandatory for all movements of cattle, including day old calves. NAIT approved RFID cattle tags are white only. Please do not remove tags if cattle are identified with Animal Health Board or MINDA tags.  All animals being exhibited at the Show including any participating in a hoof and hook carcase competition comes under the standard identification and ASD regulations. These cattle will require the NAIT approved RFID tag. It is the livestock exhibitors responsibility to record all animal movements with NAIT 48 hours prior to leaving the farm/property for the Show and then within 48 hours of returning to the farm/property from the Show.

Where live cattle or deer form part of a trade display the exhibitor is responsible for: i. ensuring all stock have completed all TB testing requirements as per Animal Health Board testing regulations, ii. ensuring all stock are identified in accordance with current legal requirements.
INSPECTION
 
C.14: The Canterbury A&P Committee reserves the right to inspect at random any cattle for tattoos or identification to establish TB Status, or to detect any malpractice of presentation in Dairy Cattle (see Condition C.37)
JUDGING
C.15: Exhibits being presented in the ring for judging without the allocated NECK NUMBER, will be disqualified from the class.
C.15A: If an exhibitor has more than two animals they must have an appropriate number of handlers so they are not holding up proceedings.
PRESENTATION OF EXHIBITS/EXHIBITORS DURING JUDGING AND PARADES
No distinguishing mark of ownership or stud name, with the exception of 'earmarks, tattoos, ear tags' and registered brands may be attached to the animal exhibited. Exhibitors are requested to see that all leaders of cattle in judging rings and parades are to wear Breed Uniform or white coats - no exceptions. White coats are available for use from the Cattle Office.
AWARD OF CHAMPIONSHIPS
C.16: Champion and Reserve Champion will be selected as follows: First Prize winners in all eligible Classes to be paraded before the judge. Immediately after the Champion has been selected the second prize animal in the Class from which the Champion has been selected may be asked into the ring for judging of Reserve Champion.
C.17: Juniors shall not be eligible for senior championships, but are eligible for Supreme Breed Champions. Champion Junior goes forward to Junior Champion Cup and Supreme Champion of Breed goes forward to Meat and Wool Cup.
C.18: Champion and Reserve Champion Ribbons will be awarded at the Judge's discretion.
C.20: SPONSORSHIPS are subject to confirmation.
C.21: PARADES: ALL prizewinning Cattle will take part in the Champion of Champions Parade on Thursday and the Ballantynes and Isaac Construction Grand Parade on Friday. Eligible non-participants will be liable for disqualification and prize money forfeited. The Champion of Champions Cattle Parade will be lead by the Supreme Champion Animal from its breed followed by the Champion Senior, Reserve Champion Senior, Champion Junior & Reserve Champion Junior & other top prize getters. The winning breed of the Meat & Wool Cup will lead the Ballantyne sand Isaac Construction Grand Parade, followed by the second place breed winner of the Meat & Wool Cup followed by all other breeds in catalogue order. Children aged under 12 years leading cattle in any livestock parade are to be accompanied by an adult. Any animal 2 years or over must be led by a person aged 16 years and over.
C.22: All led bulls (born before 31 December last) must have a ring through the nose and be under adequate supervision. It is compulsory that all Beef Females, including yearling heifers, be led by a nose clip. 
C.23: Bulls in the Cattle Pavilion must be securely tied by an adequate chain around the neck or a stout leather collar with an adequate rope attached, as well as a halter, unless securely penned (closed gate).
UNRULY ANIMALS
C.24: The Canterbury A&P Association, through the Chairman of its Cattle Committee, reserves the right to order immediate removal from the Showground of any animal it considers unruly or unmanageable. Exhibitors expelled from the Showgrounds are not entitled to any refund of entry fees.
C.25: GREENFEED: The Canterbury A&P Association will endeavour to provide sufficient quantities of greenfeed to Livestock Exhibitors at the Canterbury A&P Show. The Canterbury A&P Association takes no responsibility for providing greenfeed in excess of what is deemed adequate for each section.
C.26 BEEF CATTLE - WEIGHING OF ANIMALS: No weighing available.
C.27: AGE OF CATTLE
Beef Cattle: 2 years and over - born before 1st June 2021 Yearling - born 1st June 2022
Calf at Foot - born since 1st June 2023
 

DAIRY CATTLE
PLEASE NOTE: TB Regulations under General Cattle Conditions.
The RAS rules, regulations and agreements for showing dairy cattle apply. A full set of these rules can be obtained from the Convenor of the Section or the Show Secretary on request. It is taken that on entering cattle at this Show you have read and are aware of these rules/agreements and will abide by them.
C.28: No cow will be allowed in the judging ring which, in the opinion of the Supervisor, is unduly overstocked with milk.
C.29: In all Cattle Classes, should the exhibitor wish, the official milk record of dam will be recorded.
C.30: All Dairy Bulls, twelve months and over must be rung and have TWO LEADERS and be under adequate supervision.
C.31: Production Qualifications:
a)    All cows, three years of age and over, must have been tested and have production records above the recognised standards for the various systems of testing.
b)    All bulls must be from tested dams with production records above standard.
c)    No records are necessary for maiden three year olds.
C.32: Production Standards:
The standard of production required is the following minimum standard: Age at starting test    Standard 305 day test
2    year olds    265 kg milk solids
3    year olds    295 kg
4    year olds    330 kg
Mature    360 kg
NOTE: It is not necessary for a cow to qualify in the season previous to the Show (unless specifically stated).
C.33: Judges in the All Breeds Dairy section shall judge all classes even if their breed is not represented in all classes.
C.34: The following practices are banned from the Dairy Cattle Section at all A&P Shows:
1.    The administration of any drug to enhance the appearance of the animal.
2.    The infusion of any substance to the mammary system to alter the outward appearance of the udder or milk veins.
3.    The gluing, sealing or taping of teats or the use of artificial practices to affect the teat angle or teat placement.
4.    Canterbury A&P Association reserve that right to conduct random milk or blood testing. These practices, in any form, will be considered an act of malpractice at A&P Shows with disqualification likely to result.

All prize money will be paid by direct credit after the Show. Except Canterbury Youth Show classes will receive prize money in cash at the Show.
Note that by entering into this confirmation we take this as acceptance that you understand that any prize money paid by CAPA to you, may depending on the amount and your individual circumstances, be regarded as income by the Inland Revenue in New Zealand and therefore subject to the payment of income tax.  It is your responsibility to take independent advice on this and to make such payment where required.  CAPA accepts no responsibility for the payment of any income tax obligations that may or may not arise from the payment of any such prize money to you.

C.35: LIMITING OF ENTRIES - The Committee reserves the right to limit entries in any class or section in the event of excessive numbers of animals to accommodate.
