The cornerstone of an A&P Show is showing and it's the dedication of farmers and equestrian enthusiasts from throughout New Zealand who travel to the Canterbury A&P Show to compete, year after year, generation after generation, that makes the Show so unique.



They breed them big in New Zealand and so too is the Cattle Section at the Show. Judging of both Beef and Dairy Cattle takes place across the three days on The ANZ Lawn. The winning breed of the Meat & Wool Cup leads the Ballantynes Grand Parade.

Mighty Mix Dog Trials

A Show favourite, the Dog Trial section has a continuous three day programme kicking off with Sheep Dog Trials on Wednesday and Thursday followed by Yard Dog Trials on Friday. Find out more about Might Mix by clicking here.

Horse & Pony

The Canterbury A&P Show hosts one of the country's largest equestrian programmes. The Horse and Pony Section is the largest showing section at the Show, with the action happening across four arenas: Main Arena, Isaac 1 Arena, Isaac 2 Arena and The Common. The Canterbury A&P Show has a full three day equestrian programme including showing, breed sections, dressage and showjumping.

Other Livestock Sections

In addition to the traditional livestock sections, judging and displays will take place for Alpacas, Llamas, Wool, Angora Goats, Boer Goats, Pigs and Poultry.

The competitive action in the Shearing Pavilion kicks off on Thursday with Woolhandling heats from 7.30am. Machine and Blade Shearing heats and finals take place from 7.30am on Friday. Don't miss the World Champs qualifying final on Friday - New Zealands top shearers and woolhandlers will battle it out to take a spot in the NZ team that will be competing in the 2017 World Championships in Invercargill. Shearing Demonstrations and Children's Shearing will be held on Wednesday.

It's one of the country's biggest exports and what we're known for throughout the world. The Sheep Section at the Canterbury A&P Show does not disappoint with a continuous three day judging programme covering Border Leicesters to Shropshires and everything in between. Youth Classes

The Sheep, Beef and Dairy Cattle Sections all hold junior classes at the Show, to encourage youth to become involved in showing. The Lady Isaac Scholarship has been introduced to enable our winners to compete in other competitions nationally as well as in Australia.

If you are talking adrenaline pumping, heart stopping action, competitive woodchopping is your sport of choice. It's a continuous three day woodchopping programme at the Canterbury A&P Show so visitors are assured of non-stop action.
