The Canterbury A&P Association Elite Ram and Ewe Sale, held Friday 27 November, attracted a quality line up, with 244 Rams and 28 Ewes entered into the sale. With 145 rams selling, the average sale price was $1678 and $379 for ewes with 19 selling; total sales of $250,500 were recorded.
The highest price was reached by a Clifton Downs Southdown Ram (Chris Medlicott, Waimate), selling for $9,000.
Other top prices were as follows: South Suffolk – $5400 (Inver, SJ Sinclair, Ashburton); Corriedale – $2200 (Wattlebank, GR & RW Wilson, West Melton); Hampshire – $3600 (La-Mac, BJ & PE Butterick, Tai Tapu); Romney – $5000 (Gatton Park, DA & SJ Wyllie, Ashburton); Border Leicester – $2500 (Alyth, IR Caird, Timaru); Texel – $6500 (Hemingford, Sam Holland, Culverden); Southdown – $9000 (Clifton Downs, Chris J Medlicott, Waimate), $6500 (Willowhaugh, Willowhaugh Enterprises Ltd, Blenheim), $5200 (Midlands, AD Gillespie, Oxford); Suffolk – $6000 (Collie Hills, Collie Hills Partnership, Kurow), $5000 (Taronga, SW Howard, Lawrence); Dorset Down – $4000 (Belview, JP & WN Dodd, Oamaru).
Graham Sidey, PGG Wrightson and Canterbury A&P Association Sheep Committee Member, said that as per normal the sought after rams sold very well and the overall sale was positive.
“We were expecting the prices to be down a little, but we had a great turnout and overall we’re really happy with the sale.
There was good buying for purchasers, especially for the top-end commercial rams selling at the $800 to $1000 mark.”
