Over 3000 animals on-site
We all love the carnival rides and the Showtime food – but the reason we all come to the Show is to see the animals! There are over 3000 animals on-site every year; from alpacas to calves, ducks to horses – we’ve got it all.
The City Farmyard is one of the most popular spots on the Showgrounds. Children are able to get up close and personal with lambs, calves, puppies, ducklings, piglets, chickens and plenty more. There are also loads of education components and plenty of friendly volunteers to point you in the right direction.
Vero Livestock Pavilion
You’ll find all sorts in the Vero Livestock Pavilion: cheeky boer goats, bantam hens, enormous angus bulls and so much more. Wander between the pens, chat to the farmers and see some of New Zealand’s top livestock on show in this huge pavilion.
The Equestrian section at the New Zealand Agricultural Show is the second largest equestrian event in New Zealand. Every year we receive over 3000 entries and hundreds of horses and their riders compete for showing success in the Main Arena, The Common and the Isaac Arenas.
Rare Breeds and Llamas
With names like Nadudana Zebu Cattle and Guanacos South American Horse, the animals in the Rare Breeds Display are definitely not your typical New Zealand farmyard animals! Come and see rare goats, sheep, bunnies, poultry and more thanks to the Rare Breeds Association. You’ll find the llamas right next door too.
Mighty Mix Dog Trials
Farm dogs are an important part of everyday life on many New Zealand farms. They are purpose-bred dogs that are trained to round up stock and shift animals through gates, into pens and onto trucks. Come and see these intelligent dogs with names like Sue, Mate, Jim, Alf, Tan, Storm and Grizz as they show off their skills in the dog trial arena.
